Each autumn, a break in the season brings great relief to the tinder-dry Australian bush. Across the Eucalyptus-covered hills above Adelaide, Australia hot dry winds and the ever- present threat of wildfire are replaced by deep soaking rains and valleys enveloped in cloud. An annual transition, a rebirth.

During this autumn period, the dormant mycelial networks explode in gratitude for the rains, growing, expanding and fruiting. An incredibly diverse array of mushrooms the only visible indication of the complex organic networks at play beneath the soil’s surface.

However, if you walk deep into the great stands of remnant native vegetation in the Adelaide Hills, and stop and listen, you can hear and feel the mycelium in their annual awakening. A tingle of hidden organic networks, communicating, celebrating, being.
